Lorena is a Chartered Professional Accountant with a Master of Taxation degree and a US Certified Public Accountant. With over thirteen years of accounting and tax experience and a diverse background in accounting, tax compliance, tax planning and advisory services obtained at national firms, Lorena is well equipped to service clients with a variety of needs.
Lorena has led teams in various roles and was responsible for client engagements and proposals, speaking engagements and writing articles, improving processes and overall training and coaching of junior staff. Her areas of specialization include tax planning such as reorganizations, succession and estate planning, purchase and sale of businesses, and remuneration planning with a particular focus on owner-managed businesses and their shareholders. Lorena has also assisted clients with personal, corporate, partnership, trust and estate tax planning, accounting and ongoing annual tax compliance.
Lorena has been a leader in the tax community. She was the Chair and Co-Founder of the Steering Committee at the Canadian Tax Foundation Mississauga Young Practitioners Chapter where she frequently presented on technical tax concepts, in addition to other networking and technical events. She has also advocated for small businesses with respect to the new Private Corporation rules at large profile events with Government Officials on the panel.
Lorena contributed to the Taxation of Private Corporations and Their Shareholders book by the Canadian Tax Foundation where she wrote the chapters on loss utilization planning and purchase and sale of a business.
Lorena authored and presented at the Ontario Tax Conference on Bill C-208 Intergenerational Transfers of Businesses, an extremely important new bill that changed how the tax law has operated for over 30 years. This event is well known and attended in the tax community by thousands of professionals, some of whom are the top tax professionals in Canada.
Most recently, Lorena has taught a tax course, as well as assisted with the development of an online tax course, at the Conestoga college.
